Rapport Building: Commitment is crucial in music learning, it cant be happened over night, by putting an effort in a correct way will make the learning effective and efficient. Every month, I will give a feedback on how the student doing and how they improve.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: As I am used to ABRSM syllabus, I update myself with the teacher guide book from ABRSM, or attend a workshop for music teaching. I went to several concerts as well to broaden up my musical experience.

As a Good Tutor: A good collaboration and chemistry between teacher and student are very important. As a teacher, one must understand the character of the student in order to keep them motivated in their piano lesson.
Secondly, quality of playing is very crucial. It is not only playing all the notes accurately, but with a proper hand position, touch and musical idea which brings out music.
Lastly, as a good tutor, one must know how to reward students' hard work. Reward them with a small present or even appraisal will make them motivated and love what they are doing!

Rapport Building: Usually, I would come early for the first session to talk to the parent and the student so that I am able to know more about the development of the student in school and in what areas am I supposed to provide her help in the most. Also, I try to keep a transparent view of the development of the lessons so that the parents are in the loop of the flow of the lessons as well as how is the child improving. As for the students, I try to be interesting so as to engage them and also understand their point of view.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: What is important is to know the syllabus of the year that you are teaching so as to be directed in what you are teaching them.

Also, I have to definitely prepare a lesson to ensure that the lesson itself is engaging and fulfilling - ensuring that the students improve every lesson.

I think it's important that a good tutor is always punctual so that she will be prepared to teach and not rush through any lesson.

Rapport Building: I believe that learning is most effective in a fun and interactive environment. That's why I make my classes interesting and I prefer to engage with my student occasionally. It will not be just me 'preaching' the contents and providing all the answers. My student has to contribute his/her fair share as well, such as explaining the concepts and how he/she arrives at the answer. At the same time I will correct their mistakes if any. This way, I know how my student learns, what he/she is learning wrong and ensuring that they have understood fully the concepts. Of course, my lessons will be held in an informal and approachable way.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: My lessons will complement with the school syllables with heavy emphasis on conceptual learning. What it means it that I won't be going through entire syllables which is going to be unproductive. Instead, I will only teach the chapters the school has finished teaching and focus MORE time on concepts my student is weaker at. Questions will be selectively chosen for practises and more time will be devoted to explain them in a coherent and lucid way. Given the limited lesson time we have per week, by focusing more on students' weaknesses, I am confident to be able to cover syllables on time. Our lessons are made valued for time and money.

As a Good Tutor: Being a student tutor who taught many students at different levels, I can fully empathise the stress and challenges my students face in school. Too often I have seen students learning the wrong way, memorising too much and asking the wrong questions and end up not getting the grades they wanted. I have always been passionate in teaching and helping students to get on the right track. In my case, I would very much love to share some of my coping strategies I used during schooling to help my deal with the tons of homework and to manage my time well.

My teaching philosophy is to raise an independent learner. I strongly belief that a student who is curious, motivated and is able to think for himself/herself will excel in the long run than the student who study solely for grades. Bearing this personal philosophy in mind, I strive to teach my students the methods of thinking logically as well as to kindle their passion for learning. Simply feeding them knowledge is secondary. Furthermore the syllables nowadays has changed; exam questions are getting harder to spot and a lot more emphasis is being placed on critical thinking. Students can no longer rely on rote memorizing to score an A grade. This is why I feel students need to be taught how to think critically and I will teach time how to do so in my class.
