Tuition/Teaching Experience: I am currently tutoring a 7-year old child from China so as to help him improve his English and prepare him for his upcoming MOE entrance examination in October. I have lessons with him once a week, 1.5hr.s. To motivate him to focus and do well during my lessons, I came up with a points system to reward him for his hardwork.

I am also tutoring a P4 student in English so as to help him improve and do well for his end-of-year examinations. I apply the same points system with him and so far, he has been coping well our lessons.

I would always ask my students on their progress in school, to keep updated on what their learning and their gap with the school's progress.

As a Good Tutor: I prompt students to ask questions, from which I would explain and clear their doubts. Students have found it useful as it really helps them to understand different topics and concepts. I believe that tutors who are able to understand how his/her student interpret different topics and thus able to fill in the gaps for the students have, would allow the student to improve most tremendously .

Rapport Building: I believe that trust is of utmost importance in ensuring effective learning for the student. Rapport has to be built between student and tutor by understanding their learning styles to allow for lessons to be customised according to the student's needs. I recognise that time is very precious for students, so lessons will definitely be enriching and maximised to the fullest. Communication with the parents is also a key aspect as I make sure to keep the parents in the loop about the student's progress. This also allows me to receive any feedback and better myself to suit the needs of the student.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: Upon the first lesson, I would require the student to go through the school's curriculum with me as it varies from school to school. This would allow me to gain a deeper understanding of how to structure my lessons. On the other hand, I would also volunteer to bring materials for the student such as test papers and worksheets

As a Good Tutor: As a tutor, I place the interests of the student as priority. Definitely patience and understanding would be crucial factors in allowing the student to comprehend the content. For me as a tutor, i would like to befriend the student such that they would be comfortable enough to contact me even outside of lesson time to clarify any doubts.
