Keeping Up with Curriculum: I provide my students with as many assessment books/papers as necessary for their personal practice. During exam period, I provide my students with test/exam papers from other schools. I am well versed with the current MOE syllabus as I have been continuously tutoring Primary 1 - Primary 6 students for the past 6 years (for English, Maths, Science, Tamil & Higher Tamil).

As a Good Tutor: I am very strict about punctuality & about the homework I provide my students with. They must complete the homework by the following lesson. I will enquire about their daily school homework as well so that I can determine the intensity of the homework I assign them with (in order not to over stress mt students). After each lesson, I usually give my students a 5-10minute pep talk about time management & healthy revision methods.

I am usually on-time for all lessons. If there are unforeseen circumstances that I may be late, I'll inform the student/parents half an hour earlier.

I had never dropped an assignment halfway towards the O/A Examinations. This will not happen in the future either. From past experience, I always teach the students until the end of national exams or the student/parents request to stop tuition. However, I do appreciate weekly lessons rather than irregular ones (eg: student only needs tuition before exams).

Keeping Up with Curriculum

As a Good Tutor: Currently, I am also working as a part-time physics teacher at a tuition center. My job scope is to conduct group/individual physics/math classes for A-Level students, and at the same time, prepare worksheet & summary notes for all chapters. I long to strive for the best for all my students by helping the slower students to learn and at the same time, inspire the better ones to think beyond the exam syllabus. During the class, I try to forge friendship with students to achieve a comfortable and interesting learning environment. I always try to deliver concepts with clarity and application in daily life. Most of the students showed improvement in their results after 2-3 weeks of commencing classes and I have received affirmation from both the management and the parents.

I have prepared a complete set of concise A-level physics summary notes and worksheets, which summarize the important concepts in syllabus and common mistakes students tend to make. I usually provide them to my students freely and I have been constantly improving the content to make sure they are effective in understanding & learning.

Rapport Building: When teaching younger students it is important to provide incentives in order to "push" them to strive for he best. I believe that the first tuition session matters the most for rapport building. I always introduce myself to the parents, and the student; spend at least 15 minutes to get to know the student. I will proceed to explain how I'm going to help the student, and start on goal setting.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I am familiar with the current curriculum, and I always spend time prepping for the tuition lesson. Seeking feedback from your students is important as well. You have to keep track of their progress in school, and also any changes in the syllabi.

As a Good Tutor: I reckon that good tutors have to be patient, dedicated, and willing to commit time on helping the student. They have to be flexible on their style of teaching, personalizing it to suit the student. They have to find new ways to keep the student engaged in what they are learning.
Tutors should also constantly seek feedback, and tweak themselves accordingly.
