Tuition/Teaching Experience: I had a five-month experience teaching Maths and English to a Secondary 3 girl. Her Maths grade improved from D5 to a A2. However, the duration was too short for such a significant improvement in her English grade.

I have also had a two-year experience tutoring students of various ages to prepare them for the SAT exam and US university application. I had taken the SAT myself and had scored 2250/2400. My application to US university can be considered successful as I had been admitted to Wesleyan College (ranked 15 in liberal arts), Colgate College (ranked 22) and Macalester College (ranked 24) with scholarship.

Commitment / Other Details: I can start asap and can do so until May, which will be my one month break.

I can take jobs on Weekends, Wednesday afternoon and Monday, Thursday nights. I would prefer taking jobs on Monday, Thursday nights as my weekend schedule is not fixed.

Rapport Building: I talk to my students and look through their works if allowed to understand their levels and needs. As much as possible, I will not make unreasonable demands for my students but if I and their parents deem that the student needs a push in terms of discipline, I am willing to do so. However, my students have never complained that I am too strict or dry, because I always try to supply lessons with interesting materials that add to their knowledge and are easy to remember.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I have a cousin in secondary school and a lot of juniors in JC. We talk quite a lot and they are willing to update me with the latest changes in the curriculum.

As a Good Tutor: I think a good tutor should be devoted and open minded: they should be willing to dig deep and see the core needs of each student instead of imposing an one-size-fit-all methods.

Commitment / Other Details: I am able to start immediately and have not cut off date. As I'm still schooling in Ngee Ann poly in year 1. I am able to conduct tuitions after school. I prefer to one to one home tuition for students as it allows me to concentrate fully on the student.

Rapport Building: I would always keep the students occupied with learning either by hands on or drawings. As this way students can visualise what the book is actually saying.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I keep myself updated to curriculum as I also teach my younger brother. He is doing new syllabus and that allows me to read up the new syllabus in order to teach him effectively.

As a Good Tutor: As a good tutor I think dedication, passion, patience and compassion needs to be present. This is because students will only ask for tuition as they are either unable to grasp the knowledge by themselves or are unclear. Thus tutors job is the make sure they understand their work.
