Tuition/Teaching Experience: Taught in Bendemeer secondary, and am currently teaching Crescent Girls School. It's been a wonderful 6 years teaching and educating the young and while I tend to be strict with my students regarding homework submissions and their attitude in the subjects, they usually end up loving the rigour of my lessons. So far, most of my students obtain As in their respective subjects.

I have experience with teaching slightly autistic students as well as dyslexic students. My psychology degree helps greatly in that aspect. I do not treat them much differently from my other students though, homework has still has to be handed in etc. :) I also have experience in teaching Intl students as well. I've taught Hwa Chong intl, SJI international, Australian international students.

Rapport Building: Building rapport with my students would include firstly, getting to know their primary learning style (kinesthetic, visual or audio) and using that to facilitate their learning. Another way is to find out about some of their interests / hobbies / co-curricular activities, so as to use these to create analogies (when explaining a theory or concept) to help them better relate.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: Includes reading the latest curriculum through purchasing assessment books for the relevant subject (from Popular), as well as asking around to find out more. Another option would be to go to the MOE website and research on the subject syllabuses.

As a Good Tutor: I believe a good tutor should first focus on understanding the child's learning capabilities and strengths, even before beginning to teach the subject / tackling the topics. This would help create the best learning environment possible for the child which would then facilitate the teaching/learning process. I also believe a good tutor should be one that is flexible and adaptable, not just sticking to one "fixed" method of teaching but being creative and open to trying out other ways of teaching if one particular way does not work. Considering how this generation of children requires a more stimulative learning environment (because they are constantly surrounded by gadgets and technology), we need to take that into account when teaching.

I have also been accepted into the Teaching Internship Programme and I have taught in a Secondary School Chemistry and Mathematics, to both lower secondary and upper secondary students. I have taught a Sec 4 student EMath/AMath/Chemistry, Pri 3 student Maths, and Sec 1 IP student Maths.

Having seen and taught students with different abilities and attitudes, I believe that I can modify my lesson plans to cater to their needs and help them understand concepts better.
