I would also use multimedia elements like videos to get the child interested in the subject and ask them where they want to go in the future (poly/jc) and what course they are interested to study in the future etc and share my experience with them.
As for parents, I would talk to them to find out more about their child, their strength and weakness and how fast the child would absorb concepts etc and regularly report the child progress to the parents and find out if the child has improve in their test/exam result etc.
