Tuition/Teaching Experience
I have not tutored any student other than helping my friend's sister (sec2) with mathematics whenever I am free! I figured that it is important for one to always look through past exam papers, clear the doubts and practise the same kinds of questions to make sure it is clear instead of just doing more assessment books and still getting the same kinds of questions wrong because that wouldn't be improving!
I am able to start immediately and would be able to commit for at least a year (:
Rapport Building
I believe that it is important to update the students' parents on their progress (monthly at the minimum) so that they would know if their children are improving and since I'd only see them during the lesson, it is important for the parents to know what's going on and hopefully remind them to look through their papers/questions before the lesson to make it more effective (:
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I tend to look through the syllabus online so that I would know if there are any changes in the syllabus.
As a Good Tutor
A good tutor should seek to not only improve their grades, but also to constantly encourage them and make them interested in the subject because if they are genuinely interested, they would put in effort to do well and understand the subject content. This is especially important because too much pressure on the child can cause them to be less motivated/interested. They should also be patient and try to explain concepts in a way that is much easier to digest using examples, because very often, students might understand just the formulas but not the application of them.
