    As a Good Tutor
To a good tutor, one has to be very patient, as he/she is dealing with children with different temperament, also with different rate of learning absorption, some maybe hyper-active, or have different periods of concentration.
Having said that, the good tutor must excellent subject knowledge, to be able to dispense learning to help and motivate the learner in the most effective way, in a short period of time.

Depending on the timing, I am able to start immediately and I'm usually able to stay on an assignment for as long as the parent want me to. I have a couple of students who have been with me for more than 2 years.
    Rapport Building
I tend to have very good relationships with all my students, both male and female. I like to create a friendly environment whereby I'm not their "teacher", but just an "older friend" who can impart knowledge to them. For some of my JC and secondary students, I sometimes go with them for Open Houses as well as advise them on their next step in their education, when their parents are not able to.
    Keeping Up with Curriculum
I regularly check the MOE's official website to keep up to date with the curriculum. I also tend to do school exam papers myself every now and then to keep up with the school's standards in order to prepare the students well for their exams.
    As a Good Tutor
Besides the content being taught in school and the syllabus, I'm also open to questions asked by students which are found outside the syllabus. I firmly believe in stimulating learning outside the syllabus as part of an educator's job, as this is what my own education in schools like RGS and RJC has taught me.

      Tuition/Teaching Experience
2 years experience of teaching Sec3 and sec4 chemistry and Emath, and N Level math and Amath. I feel very rewarded by instilling in them positive attitudes towards their studies which translates into values, e.g. discipline and perserverance, that they can also apply to their lives. Success starts with the right attitude and I want to pass on what my past teachers have instilled in me that has shaped me into the self-motivated and objective person I am now. Over the years, I developed a passion for what I study and also aiding in others' learning. Also, my experience as the basketball girls' captain in JC has further taught me how to effectively convey what I want to teach by catering to different personalities and needs, which are attributes I possess in being a good tutor.

      Commitment / Other Details
I am able to start immediately, and I am willing to commit for about a year for one tuition assignment. I am currently going on year 3 as an NUS scholar majoring in Economics, and my hours are more or less flexible and negotiable.
      Rapport Building
Firstly, I make known to students the basic expectations I have for them, such as the doing of homework and having mutual respect for each other, and I ask them what are the expectations they have for me as well so that they trust me. Striking casual conversations with them is something I do occasionally to build a comfortable learning environment for them. To ensure that we take each other seriously when it comes to studies, I will always be honest in my assessment of their work, making sure that I put their needs before mine but at the same time giving constructive advice whenever it is necessary. I have not had the chance to interact with students' parents during my experience as a volunteer mentor, but I envision myself giving them regular feedback about the student's progress, being punctual for lessons, and also, finding out more about the student's personality from them so as to improve on the tutor-student chemistry.
      Keeping Up with Curriculum
I find out from my university friends, who are also tutoring primary and secondary school students, the changes in curriculum and I also find out from relatives who are currently studying it as well.
      As a Good Tutor
I feel that a good tutor firstly has self-confidence in order for the students to have faith in what they are being taught. With that comes humility which is essential when the student does not respond well to tutor's teaching strategies, requiring the tutor to adapt to different students' needs. Another important quality in a good tutor is having a very positive mindset, especially when the student lacks motivation. A good tutor is also resourceful, e.g. finding new practices, challenging the students' current knowledge, to ensure that the students have a broad understanding of what they are being taught.

There are many more qualities that make a good tutor, but I feel that one of the most important qualities a good tutor has is being a role model for the students. A good tutor does not have to be an ideal of what every student should aim for, but the tutor has to possess the right attitudes, values, and principles in life that are reflected by everything he/she does, in his/her mannerism, execution of teachings, encouragement, and advice to the students. This ensures that they are being instilled in a sense of direction and purpose in what they study, and that they willingly receive guidance from the tutor. There may be others who have views regarding this that differ from mine, but nobody can deny that the strongest indication of a good tutor is felt by the students themselves.

I am able to start now, and able to commit to the assignment as long as the student needs my help for the time being; until the student can be self-sufficient.
      Rapport Building
I would ensure the student understand the concept and have a strong foundation before moving on to harder topics. As such, such an approach would be for students who are struggling with understanding the course material (physics/ math), or seeks further understanding into the matter, however limited by time due to other commitments.
      Keeping Up with Curriculum
With the ever changing curriculum, it is unpredictable what kind of questions would come out. However, some materials which act an foundation would remain the same. And i believe with good foundation, anything that is thrown over in exams would be solved, the only question would just be how long it would take. As such, i only would guide the student on what i specialist in (physics/ math) to ensure the student has more than necessary knowledge to sail pass the subject.
      As a Good Tutor
Ensure the student does not struggle with his materials, while at the same time, guiding the student to a habit, or style of learning such that he/she can function well all by himself without a tutor.
