The P4 improve his grade from borderline failure to A this year at his EOY exam. Another P6 student showed a great improvement in her algebra as she was always being refered as the weakest in her class, until lately during her Prelim she was the only student at her level able to answer all the algebra question correctly.

My rates are 30/hr for lower secondary and 35/hr for upper secondary.

Rapport Building: I always talk to my students and make them feel that I am their friend more than a teacher in order to make them feel very comfortable with me. I am also very passionate in my teaching, as I show great care and concern for my students as much as possible so that they can appreciate it from the bottom of their heart and work hard themselves as well.

As for the parents, at times I do talk to them and update on the progress of their kids attitude and improvement. I understand that parents are busy themselves working, so i do my best to keep them updated on their kids progress so as to keep them less worried and more confident of their own child.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: Although i have only one year experience in tutoring, I do search the Internet, read the news on the education system and also talked to a few of my friends who are MOE teachers and experienced full time tutors to keep myself updated on the curriculum.

As a Good Tutor: Passion and patience t are the basic qualities of a good tutor. With passion, a good tutor will put in more effort to help their students improve their grades and hence a greater sense of achievement. With patience, a good tutor will be able to find out the weaknesses of their students and guide them progressively into improving their grades. With these 2 qualities, a good tutor will be able to commit themselves to improve their students grades, and not just teach for the sake of income.

Rapport Building: I am Syron! I scored straight As for my A Levels and I was in Student Council (which was a really busy CCA). I was able to manage my time well to juggle between my CCA commitments and school work. Besides that, I did not resolve to old-fashioned way of memorizing my concepts to do well in my exams. Currently I am a scholar in SMU (Accountancy).

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I do visit the MOE websites to keep myself updated with the current concepts taught in school. Besides that, I do visit bookstores to look through all the newer assessment books to see what trends are prevalent.

As a Good Tutor: With 3 years of experience under my belt, it has only further solidify my knowledge of these subjects. Since I was a student once, I can totally understand how a student feel (with regards to grades, stress, etc.) and hence I am very patient and encouraging. I have my own gimmicks (from my own experience) to help students remember/understand the concept better and tips on how to handle the exam paper. I am confident with my own knowledge in both Chemistry and Math and I keep myself updated with the current syllables.

As a Good Tutor: A good tutor would know how to peek the interest of the child in the subject that he is teaching, by giving analogies and creative ways of explaining the purpose behind the subject topics. Giving students the right mindset to approach the subject is also very important from a young age as it develops into a life long habit. Making students memorise formulas with no meaning is not helpful as they will not understand more complex concepts and falter on tougher questions.
