I have been teaching Economics for 20 years with various education institutions. Some of my ex-students are doctors, lawyers, teachers and other professionals. They scored A by completed my well planned assignments and followed

comments on their work. Even my H1 students taking Economics as a second subject in their university after my tuition. I

believe understanding of concepts, memorising good explanations, writing the answers by students and correcting
      mistakes.

My highest record was marking more than 30 essays personally for one student in 2015. I even provided support to my regualr students with whatsapp, emailed model answers and hourly website updates hours before their exams.

I have been tutoring since my undergraduate days for close to 7 years, teaching mainly primary and secondary school students. I specialise in Mathematics (including E Maths and A Maths), Chemistry, Physics and Principle of Accounts. I teach English and Chinese as well.

I have tutored some fifty over students so far, both on a one-to-one setting and also at tuition centres (since 2011). Many of these primary and secondary school students took my lessons all the way till their PSLE or O Levels. I also tutored three girls all from the same family for the past 5 years as well (and still tutoring the youngest one). One of them had performed well enough to be admitted into accounting in NYP while the other is in Hwa Chong Institution now.

I am ablt to commit to tuition assignments for as long as the student reaches his or her PSLE / O Levels. Unless the slot has been taken by a student, I will stick to the timing stated by the parents.
          Rapport Building
I believe in making the lesson interesting and fun for the student so that he or she will stay more focused and be willing to put in more effort to brush up their knowledge. I also make it a point to talk to parents regularly on the progress being made and which additional actions can be taken to help the students.
          Keeping Up with Curriculum
I have several friends who are teachers teaching various subjects and I often approach them for the latest news and developments in the syllabus or style of teaching in the schools. I also refer to students themselves to determine the pace at which the curriculum is covered, as some schools teach different chapters at a given time.
          As a Good Tutor
I believe that a good tutor should be cognizant of the character of the student and tweak the style of the lesson accordingly. Just as important, a tutor should make an effort to be seen as approachable and friendly so that the student feels at ease raising questions or give his or her opinions (important for tutoring languages). Another important aspect is the tutor's ability to link everyday things with the knowledge the students learn. This will help them when they move on to higher education where critical thinking and application of knowledge will be a key component of learning.

I am very patient and flexible which i believe is important for a tutor because we would need to adjust our teaching styles to match the students learning style. In addition, I have great interpersonal skills which would definitely help build rapport between the student and I.

            Rapport Building
Arvelia has always loved children and has special interest towards education. While waiting for university, she did her internship in international kindergarten tuition centre, assisting the principal teachers with their classes. And she loves it a lot! During her university holiday every year, instead of going overseas for luxury holiday, she chose to travel to rural villages in Indonesia. With a group of friends, they conducted classes for the students there and share their lessons plans to the teachers there to help the students there learn better and improve their performance.

Understanding the children and is extremely important. In addition, Arvelia always emphasize to her students that she is not merely a teacher. The child, parents and she are teammates. She always highlight to her students that she is there to help, not to teach, that the kids should not be ashamed or embarrassed if they are not sure with certain things.

She uses her students' interest to approach them, make friend with them and even use some of their interest to help the students learn in an easier and more interesting way. This will make them even more excited with the lessons.
            Keeping Up with Curriculum
She is constantly observing trends through online and revision papers from schools. She equip the students with problem solving skills rather than just an exam answer.
