I have experience in teaching O-Levels Mathematics and Physics at tuition centres full-time from Jan2008 to Aug2008, and in giving home tuition since 2011. Commitment / Other Details: COMMITMENT :
Because my tuition assignments are limited to about 1-2 students at a time, I can spend more time for better quality of coaching. While charges are only for the time I spend giving home tuition(contact hours), I will normally be available for extra consultations through the internet or phone on an ad-hoc basis.

Teaching is my passion and I place emphasis on building trust, long-term commitment and discipline with my students to guide their learning process.

*Special Offer : For Sec 3 students in 2014 who will be sitting for O-Levels in 2015; I can commit for the entire duration. We can work out a revision plan based on past year papers(10-year series) and complete the syllabus before the final examinations.

TEACHING METHODS :
I have the experience dealing with students from different levels of academic abilities. The most important thing I gleaned is that; to teach effectively, one must gain an understanding on how the students think and learn. Therefore, I tailor my approach and the depth of the lessons according to the needs and abilities of the students. If the need arises, I am also willing to explain the fundamental concepts in other languages that I am fluent in(Malay and Tamil)

For weak students(grade below C6/Pass), emphasis is placed on building a strong foundation to try to push the students to grade B3 and above. For average and good students, I focus more on problem solving and practice based on past year papers to build aptitude and the confidence to tackle the questions and obtain the coveted Grade A. I have also worked with excellent students; focusing more on higher level problem solving skills. On request, I am also willing to go beyond the syllabus to provide greater challenge for highly motivated students.

Rapport Building: I have a relaxed demeanour but a very strong work ethic. I put considerable effort into my lesson preparation so that the tutoring sessions are valuable and enjoyable. I hope to build on the student's existing knowledge to achieve their full potential. I am of course guided by the needs of each student but, as a marker for the OCR exam board, I have an understanding of mark schemes and how to get the best results in coursework and examinations. I know how important it is for students to display an understanding of context, an awareness of critical responses and an ability to analyse language. This all sounds rather dry, but I hope that my delivery will be creative and thought-provoking. I use tailor-made exercises, plenary sessions and essay planning to hone these skills. In advance of each session, I prepare my own worksheets, quizzes, revision guides and annotated excerpts from the text to consolidate the learning process.

I strive to provide exceptional value for money and am happy to be contacted by the student out of hours and at no additional cost, with any questions. I am also happy to receive essay plans and essays by email and revert to students will full comments and suggestions for improvement.

I've always drill my tutees when it comes to math because it's very much on practicing and understanding what the question is asking for. I've tutored primary school science as well. Due to myself taking the science stream in JC, it made it a lot easier to explain the concepts to the kids. Science is a lot about understanding and memorizing the details. So I'll always do repetitive reminders since that helped me a lot during major exams.

Rapport Building: I've been through what the kids went through and I know how it feels to be stressed out in school these days. I always like to encourage my tutees but at the same time I'll always remind them not to be complacent with their results. All in all, I think building a good rapport with the child would help a lot with teaching and I aim to build that will my kids to help them learn more
