. I myself have also achieved great results in Chinese, getting A* and merit for Chinese and Higher Chinese in the PSLE, and A1 and A2 for Chinese and Higher Chinese in O levels. On top of that, I have been invited by MOE to read passages for recording for 课文欣赏 and represented my school for chinese oratorical competitions and winning back prizes, showing my excellence in speaking proper Chinese and hence ability to help students with oral. On top of that, I am also a student correspondent reporter for 早报, showing my competency in writing Chinese, and the ability to teach students to write good Chinese compositions.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
Since I am invited by MOE for Chinese related events and I also write articles which are posted on newspapers, I am more able to be in touch with the whole Chinese media and education industry, which keeps me updated for all new and upcoming events. I also check the MOE website frequently in case of any changes to the syllabus.
As a Good Tutor
I am patient and I have strong passion for Chinese, which makes it easy for me to motivate my students to develop love for the subject as well. Loving the subject is the key to improvement in results and beyond, hence my students will eventually be good at Chinese and not just simply scoring the papers during examinations.
Also, since I am patient, I am willing and able to spend more time to explain for a few more times to make sure that my student understands and remembers what I have to teach. This makes it easier for my student to study and revise for the exams.
Finally, I am strong at Chinese (I am invited by MOE to do passage reading and I write articles that are posted on newspaper), showing that I can write and speak good Chinese. The MOE syllabus does not only require students to write good Chinese but also to speak good Chinese, which I am capable of doing it myself, showing that I have the ability to teach students to be good speakers and brilliant writers.

      I believe that a strong relationship starts with building camaraderie. I have to undergo conversations in order to better understand and allow the student to open up. From that, I am more effectively able to understand the difficulties, weaknesses and strengths the student has and hence be able to work from there.

      I will read through the MOE and SEAB syallabus outline and ensure I am up to date on the changes. Also, if I am rusty with any subjects, I will purchase the textbooks they are currently using and ensure I am thoroughly equipped before embarking on teaching the students. I feel only with the knowledge will I be able to teach and learn together with my student.
      As a Good Tutor
      A given would be dedication and perseverance. Every student's learning capabilities and depth are different. Some require multiple repititions before understanding while others may not. That is the beauty of learning such that we are all different. Being able to meet and interact with different students is a whole new journey each time. Teaching also requires patience and strong rapport building in order to strengthen the student-teacher relationship. In order to ensure there is a knowledge transfer, the tutor also has to be passionate about what he/she learns, inculcating the correct values and attitude one should have in order to seek improvement and succeed.

          It is important for a tutor to always have a clear idea of school curriculum so as not to confuse the student. Tutor teaching one thing while school teacher teaching another is dangerous in veering the student in the wrong direction. Thus, I will always make sure that whatever I impart to the student will be in tune to what he/she is learning in school.

          I believe in the 3-way channel in attaining good results. First, a tutor has to be serious and committed in helping the student. Second, the student himself/herself should have the drive and passion to improve. Lastly, parents too, play an important part. When the tutor leaves for the day, it is then up to the parents to make sure that the student follows the tutor's instruction in completing practises or homework. One link cannot work without the other. Hence, when all parts are played well, good results are inevitable.
