Tuition/Teaching Experience
I began tutoring at the age of 17 and have taught 13 students in total. I started teaching them when they were in their lower secondary. I am happy that most of them have made it from a F9 to at least a B3 for their math and additional math.

Upon their graduation, we are still in very close contact and we meet up often for gathering. I am not just a tutor to them, but also a friend! :)

Rapport Building
I will keep parents updated on their children's progress and apart from academics, we will discuss on the student's attitude towards learning in order to for the student to improve as a whole. As for the student, i believe that appropriate rewards and being able to listen to them are very important for rapport building.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
Usually, i will ask my students for their school's curriculum structure and check current versions of textbooks to see if there are any changes in curriculum. In addition, i will access the MOE website to check if there are any additions/removals of a particular chapter.
As a Good Tutor
Being a tutor requires a lot of patience and understanding each students' needs is very important. The learning curve of each student is different, thus, methods and techniques used will differ from one to another. Apart from academics, i feel that being able to offer help/listening ear to them may also be a good way to convince students that one has the best interest at heart for them.

I am an MOE Teaching Scholarship holder and have been giving tuition for maths and science for 8 years. I am pleased to say that under my tutelage, my students have seen a great improvement in their results. I am well versed in JC and secondary school mathematics and science syllabus.

With the experience under my belt, I understand the requirements for each of the subjects and am able to target the learning for both maximum understanding and for the exams, be it the school exams, the 'O' or 'A' levels.
I believe that the best reward a tutor can get is the results their students reap at the end of the day. I look forward to helping other students out there with my knowledge and experience!

I have been a Biology Lecturer and Teacher for about 7 years in one of the top Junior Colleges in Singapore. I sincerely love helping my students to learn Biology and acquire useful learning skills for themselves. In my time as a teacher, some of the most rewarding teaching experiences (both for my students and myself) also came from my small-group and one-to-one sessions with students. It was those sessions of coaching my students outside of our classroom time that helped them to better understand and improve in my subject and which have also given me much experience in understanding some of the common difficulties faced by our Junior College Biology students these days.

I have been peer tutoring students from Kent Ridge Secondary School and have experience in teaching Mathematics for about 2 years. I have passion in Mathematics and sincerely hope that every student under me will be able to love Math after my coaching. I believe that for them to do so, it is important to make the subject fun, and help them to do well so they feel a sense of achievement whenever they are doing the subject. As such, I let students practise more Math problems. Now, I am coaching a Sec 2 IP girl Math and a P1 girl Math. I will decide the pace of the lesson based on their speed of learning and I have my own materials (in terms of worksheets and learning aid) to help students' learning.

I am able to start immediately and hope for assignments around the Northeast area.
        Rapport Building
I update parents about their students' progress at the end of each lesson to help them keep track of their children's learning. For students, I believe rapport building is very important so I will keep track of their academic progress (in terms of quizzes and assignments they have done in school). I encourage students to do better in each quiz by setting attainable goals for them and give them words of encouragement every time they do a question well.
        Keeping Up with Curriculum
I visit the bookshop often and ensure that I am up-to-the-date with the syllabus and use the students' textbooks to monitor my tutoring pace.
        As a Good Tutor
I manage the time well and split the 1.5h lesson into 2 parts: one for students to ask me questions from their school workload/to clarify mistakes they have done in the past homework I have assigned them and the other half for me to teach content/drill more questions/ revise past year's work.

I believe that is an important quality. Besides, a tutor must be patient, gentle and encouraging and be a good role model for their students.

Would like to start ASAP. Would be free weekdays 4/5pm onwards, weekends morning and afternoon will 5/6pm prefered (night is alright too). Would commit at least a year for an assignment. Also, if student is going to undertake major exams, would be able to tutor until they have concluded them. ( eg. if tutoring sec 3 student, would commit until their O Levels are over if they are alright with me. )
            Rapport Building
Come earlier for lessons, chit chat with them (students or/and parents) to understand find out more on what problems the tutee faces in school etc. Aim to rectify those problems. Getting to know the tutee on a more personal level to facilitate better interaction so tuition would no longer be perceived as boring or students dreading tuition. After lesson, update parents ( if possible ) about what has been taught etc. Rewards students occasionally for their hard work, be it small tests, studying late at night or major exams.
            Keeping Up with Curriculum
My siblings have notes ranging from sec 1 - sec 4 and since i tutor them, i make sure to i read thoroughly on what they are going to be tested on. I also go through exam papers to make sure they know what went wrong.
            As a Good Tutor
First would be Patience. Every student would have different academic abilities and methods of learning. Not all of them can be taught via the same method. The pace at which he or she learns has to be reasonable. Hence, tutors should understand and have more patience with students that learn slower. Ever so often, tutees will also defy your instructions, eg. doing homework, etc. Tutors would then have to explain the importance of keeping up with the curriculum and eventually helping them to achieve the best for their grades.

Next i would think is Persistance. Of course, tutors would have to adapt to every new student that he or she teaches. But in some cases, the student simply does not want to learn or does not understand what the tutor is saying during the lesson. Tutors would therefore have to find different ways, be it using visual pieces or some analogies to help the student to understand what the topic is about, especially if one is relatively new to the topic chosen. For student that have the mindset of not wanting to learn, tutors cannot be too persistant as that may drive the students further away from understanding the importance of education. As tutors we would have to work together with the parents to help change the mindsets of these particular students,

Last but not least, being mature is also an important value/quality of good tutors. Knowing to do the right things at the right times. As a tutor, one has to set an example for the tutees. After all, since your are helping them, they will look up to you. During the tuitions, tutors should not make crude jokes, fool around as this will not help the tutees to achience their academic goals.
