Commitment / Other Details
I am able start immediately and commit in the long term. I have just completed year 1 of university and my own lessons in school usually end before 6. Hence I'm able to teach on most weekday evening/nights and on weekends.
Rapport Building
I believe that students, parents and tutors all have one goal - to improve. Working towards this goal would require communication and understanding. It is essential to know the parents' expectations as well as the student's ability. The most important thing is understanding the student and his/her weaknesses, thereafter working on them.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
Firstly, I would check with the student on his/her class' progress and the curriculum. I would also check the syllabus on the official MOE site.
As a Good Tutor
The basic qualities of a good tutor should have are patience, knowledge and communication skills. Patience is crucial, rushing a student to understand would not make him or her understand better or faster. Instead, it has the reverse effect. Using patience while teaching and explaining would be more effective. Knowledge is evidently an essential quality as the tutor must be able to answer queries posed by the student and to make up for gaps in understanding. Communication skills are required to help the student understand easier. Sometimes, students cannot understand in school because of the way it is presented or taught.
