Rapport Building
During the first few sessions, instead of uprightly assigning students homework, I like to take time to understand students' learning style as well as communicate with parents with regards to students' learning history and grades, understand parents' concerns. Thereafter, I would then design the tuition sessions to best fit the students' learning abilities.

To maintain a good relationship with the student, I take on the role of a friendly tutor, as someone whom the student is not afraid to ask questions, and not afraid of making mistakes. By building a good student-tutor relationship with the students, parents would also be more at ease to leave their children in the tutor's hands.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I keep myself updated with the curriculum by requesting from the students/parents a copy of the schools' timetable/ lesson schedule, such that I am able to pace my sessions with that of the students' curriculum. This will also ensure that the materials that I prepare are relevant to what the students are learning in school.
As a Good Tutor
The basic qualities of a good tutor are, in my humble opinion, patience and communication. Sometimes, it may be challenging to convey or explain a certain concept to a student, which may lead to frustration. However, it is important to understand that the student is also trying his/her best to comprehend, and he/she will eventually understand in a matter of time.

Good communication is important too, for tutors to lay out and explain the concepts in the most comprehensible manner for the student as possible.

It is only with patience and good communication, will the student benefit from the tutor.
