Tuition/Teaching Experience: I taught Sec 3 Amath for a few months before. I believe in working with parents regarding their child's progress. I also believe in practicing a lot and thus I would encourage students to buy assessment books or practice papers, I would prefer students not do their school homework during class because that would reduce my teaching time. However, if students have problems in their school work, they may bring in to class. The questions that students asked have to be attempted and not left completely blank. I will also give homework because that is the only way to ensure students get sufficient practices apart from school homework.

Rapport Building: Having talks with their parents and understand the children's areas of weaknesses and their concerns. Come up with a timeline and set realistic goals. Talk to students about the problems and difficulties they face. Let them understand that it takes two hands to clap and they can improve only if they help themselves. Alter teaching methods to suit each student, work and follow closely with each of them. I will build trust and confidence with my students (this happens over time).

Keeping Up with Curriculum: Other than reading and practicing the curriculum to update my knowledge, I consistently search for new and innovative ways to teach my students. One of such examples would be getting involved in social media, following industry blogs and participate in online forums/ discussion platforms. It is relatively easier to obtain knowledge than to and devise and improvise strategies for teaching.

As a Good Tutor: I feel that a good tutor needs to understand her students, be compassionate and willing to go the extra mile to help when her students are in need. At the same time, she has to be strict and focus on achieving goals and results.

Rapport Building: I still remember my last tuition student who was in K2 and came to me for tuition in Tamil, likes to draw and paint. I started using drawing blocks, crayons and colour pencils to teach him. He started liking to learn and started conversing in Tamil to his family, something which he didn't do before. It is an achievement for any teacher to hear this from a parent. I am willing to listen to any suggestions or so from parents.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I do have a sister who works as a teacher and an aunt who also teaches tuition full-time. I do check with them from time to time to make sure I am still updated and I do not miss out on any curriculum for my students.

As a Good Tutor: My believe and my style of tutoring is firstly to understand how any child likes to learn. Then, tuning their interest from what they like to do to using that as a way to study will attract the child's interest in studying and learning will not become a hassle or so.
