Tuition/Teaching Experience: I have been giving private tuition for 2 years and I have been enjoying it. Being a recent grad from VJC, I am well-aware of the MOE syllabus as well as the problems and common mistakes that students make. Just last year, I have helped a P6 student, who has always failed English, Mathematics and Science during his school exams, achieve a decent B for these 3 subjects during the PSLE within a short 3 months. I have always believed in simplifying concepts to allow students to grasp key concepts better, but at the same time not compromising on the depth of the topic that needs to be covered. I am currently giving tuition to a Sec 3 student (Pure Chem and Pure Bio).

Tuition/Teaching Experience: I am an 18 year old girl awaiting her A level results after graduation from Hwa Chong Institution, and I am committed and prepared to tutor secondary level students till their O level period. After getting straight A's for my own O levels I am confident of helping others do the same.

I have 2 sisters in Sec 1 and Sec 4 respectively, and thus I am able to keep in touch with the current secondary school syllabus even though I have already graduated from JC, and I will have my own textbooks and notes to refer to.

I have no prior tuition experience, but I have done mentoring CIP for weak students from my own secondary school after I graduated (while I was in JC1 and JC2). I helped improve her Biology from a F9 to a B3 for O levels though our mentoring sessions.

Rapport Building: I usually have no problems talking to kids and parents as I already have first hand experience with dealing with concerned parents during my teaching stint in school. Wanting to become a full-fledged teacher myself in the future, i can totally empathize with parent's difficulties in managing their children's studies and also the difficulties children face nowadays in order to excel in their studies.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I do the ten years series myself. As I am a fresh graduate. I am confident that I am equipped with enough knowledge to handle both O and A level syllabus.

As a Good Tutor: To be a good tutor, patience is of utmost importance. I believe I am one of the rare people who doesn't mind repeat certain concepts many times as long as students get it. Most tutors get frustrated when students do not understand a certain concept but I don't think that's the way.

Good rapport with students is also important. Only when students are comfortable with the tutor, can the students be more willing to pay attention to the tutors.

Lastly, i believe that in order for students to benefit fully from private tuition, students should do their best to absorb whatever they can in school and treat tuition as a chance to clear all doubts. I am willing to share tips on exams handling and how to prepare oneself psychologically and physically for major exams.

Commitment / Other Details: I am currently studying at Singapore Management University, Business Management.
For the current semester and upcoming semester, I am having a 3 days school week - Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

For one of the student, I am teaching him every Sunday afternoon whereas for another student, I am having lesson with him every Wednesday night.
I am able to start immediately and able to commit as long as possible, because I understand the importance of staying committed and responsible for the student. However, I will be traveling out of Singapore for a school trip in the upcoming December holiday.
The duration of the trip will last for 17 days, from 6th of December (night) to 23rd of December. Otherwise, I will be in Singapore with no further traveling plans.

Rapport Building: I am more than willing to divulge my contact number to the parents to contact me whenever the need arises. Also, I am comfortable with parents questioning me on the way I conduct the class with the student.

I make it a point to encourage my student whenever he or she completed one examination. This can come in the form of food encouragement. While teaching the student and imparting knowledge is important, I consciously make it an effort to bend the teacher-student hierarchy because it can be intimidating. That being said, I will not hesitate to guilt trip the student when he or she fails to complete her assignments.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I make it a point to flip through the textbooks and check the syllabus online before teaching a subject that is foreign to me. During class, I will definitely purchase the ten years series and double check with the student on the current syllabus.

As a Good Tutor: I personally feel that a good tutor is to be patient and responsible.
There are many situations when the student can be rebellious (refusing to comply to assignments that are being set aside to them) or uncooperative. This behaviour coupled with the avalanche of school commitments can lead to the tutor feeling frustrated and on the verge of giving up. However, I feel that when their parents agree to engage on your tuition services, they are actually loading a whole lot of trust on you and is only your responsibility to help their kids in their academics.

Besides the monetary benefits that tutoring service provide for undergraduate (like me), I feel that it goes beyond that and is actually a joy to see your student improve leaps and bounds under your guidance. I have been teaching my students for the past year and every time they tell me that "I see hope in the subject" or "I love the subject now!" drives me on and keep me committed.
