As a Good Tutor: I have a burning passion for English, history and social studies, and hope that students can come to love these subjects as I do. In my opinion, academic excellence is a fruit of love for the subject, for only when one loves the subject is he or she willing to dedicate productive time and effort to it.

I believe that understanding is a better contributor towards academic success as compared to rote memory, and will strive to ensure that students understand what they are learning in school, instead of simply memorising in preparation for regurgitation on the examinations.

Tuition/Teaching Experience: I have a year of tuition experience dealing with students at the lower primary and upper primary level. It is a challenge to keep the attention of younger children and as a tutor I would try to taper my lessons to the child to ensure he/she benefits from the lesson as much as possible.

I also have close to a year of experience with a secondary 3 express student. His pure Chemistry grades jumped from a C6 to an A1 in 3 months and he managed a B in English for the first time that year.

I can understand the despair a student experiences in the face of persistently bad grades. It is common for students to bemoan that they "don't know what they don't know". As a tutor this would be where I start to tackle the problem.

I specialize in English and Chemistry at the secondary school level.

Commitment / Other Details: I would prefer assignments on wednesday nights. I feel the optimal amount of time would be 2 hours on a once-a-week basis.

For the mid-year examination period I would be able to have more sessions with the tutee if needed at a lower cost. I would probably be busier in the period of march to end april and October to early December. I might require more flexibility in scheduling tuition sessions but I will try my best to schedule for make-up sessions.
I am also open to holding group sessions with the student's friends at a lower fee. Prices and duration of these lessons are negotiable depending on the number of students in the class.

As a Good Tutor: I think a good tutor is a tutor who tailors his pedagogies to the needs of each individual student. Some students may require more attention than others or more time to learn. There are many tutors out there who adopt a strict set of 'SOP's and apply them to every tutee that comes under them; while it may work on some students, I believe that many other tutees suffer because certain specific needs of theirs will not be met.
